Kanisu Krab Salad

Sitting at the bar at a sushi restaurant is the place to be.

Not only can you chat with the chef, learn about what you’re eating, feel superior to the boring old table eaters… but you can often get special treats and favorites from the chefs, and it’s the best way to expand your palate.

The sushi bar is where I first got my hands on a Kanisu salad. It’s simple and delightful, and crazy easy to throw together at home when you’re too tired to put pants on and go into public.

Kanisu Crab Salad with cucumber, krab and sesame dressing.

It only takes three or four things to make this happen.

Kanisu salad with cucumber strips, krab, sesame dressing and sesame seeds.

Cucumber, real or imitation crab, sesame dressing, and sesame seeds.

If you have access to real crab, even better, but truly, imitation Krab works just fine, fancy pants.

Peel and slice up some cucumber, leaving the skin on isn’t a good look for this salad. It’s too tough, and doesn’t allow for the dressing to marinate as well.

Next up, peel that krab stick like string cheese, we’ve all done it, you know exactly that I’m talking about.

I use Trader Joe’s Toasted Sesame Dressing because it’s a dead-on match for the dressing from my favorite restaurant.

But if you don’t have a TJ’s nearby, any store bought sesame based dressing would be yummy, or you can click here for another great dressing recipe!

Dress the salad with sesame dressing and some sesame seeds, a squirt of fresh lemon next levels things, for sure.

So the next time you’re find yourself swimming in summer cucumbers, remember nothing beats the heat like a cold Kanisu salad.
